Knowing God’s plan for our lives is by far one of the most difficult things to figure out. Often we confuse our plans with God’s. “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails,” (Proverbs 19:21, NIV). To know His will, we have to know Him and the sound of His voice. The only way to do this is to spend time with Him. He speaks to us by the Holy Spirit through His word, people, circumstances, or as we quietly rest in His presence. If we pray for the spiritual eyes and ears to see and hear Him, He will answer us. God does have a plan for each of us, whether we get it figured out or not. He’s using us, even when we don’t realize it. His ultimate plan is not about us at all, but about His kingdom. We’ve just been given the privilege of playing a small role in the big picture. Similar to the plans he had for Jeremiah, he plans to give us a “hope and future” as we seek and trust in Him.
