Have you ever noticed some toys go unwanted for months until one child shows interest? Once one child has the toy, the toy becomes much more desirable to the other children. Childishly, the older brother envied his father’s blessings on his younger brother. He reminded his father that he had never given him even a young goat on which to feast with his friends. I wonder if it occurred to him to ask. I imagine this father would’ve done the same for him if he had spent time with him and asked. But like the child with the unwanted toy, because his brother had a celebration, he wondered why he’d never been given one. If we spend time with our Father and remember to ask, it could be His will for us to have those things we most desire. If our desire is seeking and knowing the heart of God, our desires and His will for us will most likely be similar.
