“I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably (exceeding abundantly) more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:17b-21
We can measure the contents of a pitcher or bowl. A tub, barrel, or even a resevior can be measured to the nearest gallon. But a spring can never be measured. Who knows how many gallons it has (but God)? It flows with endless resource and ability. Divine power has this springlike quality that Paul is describing in this verse. It flows up, out, and over! It’s immeasurable– exceeding abundant! Incalcuable is the power of God at work within us who believe. We can take the vessels of our lives to this inexhaustible spring of power and life- Jesus- and take them away filled to overflowing!
