Boundaries are also necessary in healthy relationships and lifestyles. Poor choices with friends can be destructive, so we must choose wisely. We can also become exhausted to the point of burnout when we don’t learn how to say no. And when our homes get as cluttered as our schedules, then we’d rather be anywhere but home. Mary and Martha were particularly good at boundaries, each in different ways. Martha was busy cooking, cleaning, and de-cluttering their home. Her gift of hospitality was apparent as she worked endlessly making food and space for everyone present, especially Jesus. Mary, however, made room in her heart. She spent time at Jesus’ feet, gazing into His face. Listening intently, Mary soaked up being in His presence. They chose wisely when they chose Jesus as one of their dearest friends. Are your friends spurring you on towards Jesus? Have you chosen wisely? Like Mary and Martha, are you making room for Jesus? Do you need to de-clutter your home, schedule, or heart to hear and see Him more clearly?
