There’s nothing like the smell of bacon or something yummy to lure you out of bed and to your feet! It’s amazing really….works better than an alarm clock every time! And not sure why, but eggs and bacon seem to taste better when you’re on vacation… and even more so if you’re camping. It is impossible to arouse your sense of smell and not want to touch and taste it as well. To smell bacon but then be deprived of tasting it or to have to eat something else.. like celery… torture.
David, the Psalmist encourages us to “taste and see that the Lord is good.” What does he mean exactly? Taste in Hebrew is Ta`am, meaning to taste or perceive. Perceive means to become aware of, know, or identify by means of the senses; to recognize, discern, envision, or understand.
So to know God, to recognize and understand Him firsthand is tasting.
To know of God but not know Him is like smelling the goodness of bacon but never getting to taste it.
He wants us to KNOW Him. Stir up your senses. Don’t just witness His goodness in other’s lives. Pray that your spiritual eyes be opened to recognize, discern, envision and understand Him firsthand.
Open the eyes of our hearts Lord, that we might see and experience You today.
Taste and see… HE IS GOOD.
