Is It Okay To Be Uncertain?

Recently someone asked the question…  Where in God’s Word does it say it’s inerrant, without error or infallible?  Others have asked similar questions… Who is God, really?  How do I know He’s the only God?  Are there multiple ways to get to God?  It’s okay to ask such questions, but its most important to get answers, naked truth answers.   I’ve learned that people are going to believe what they want to believe, and often those asking want a reaction and not necessarily truth.   Books have been written by brilliant people on this subject.  I’m not a Bible scholar, but since I’ve been asked, I will attempt  to respectfully answer with clarity for those I will name Uncertain.

Let me start by saying I’m a Christian, not a Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu or any other religious group for one very important reason.  Out of all the religions in the world, the God I worship is alive!  He’s not dead nor has He been carved out of wood or stone.  He defeated death on a cross that you and I could have abundant, forever life.

What about multiple ways to the same God?  Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one can come to the Father except through me. The world will try to convince you otherwise, but Jesus is the one and only Way!

Most people would say they believe IN God or a higher power, but do they actually believe Him?  Do they believe He is who He claims to be and can do what He says He can? Do they believe He’s omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent:  all-knowing, all-powerful, and everywhere all the time?  Do they believe He is Creator and has all authority over heaven and earth?  He said I AM that I AM!  To me that’s it, end of story!  Need He say anymore?  He’s everything we could ever need or want.  I’ve heard it said,  Jesus + nothing= everything.  I think that pretty much sums it up!

It really all comes down to faith.  Jesus suggested we believe with child-like faith.  But truthfully some of us think ourselves too intelligent for that!  We need to have it all figured out.  God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty...  IF we could sum God up in words and unravel all His mysteries, then He wouldn’t be God, would He?

Uncertain, if you believe God’s Word is a myth, then that changes everything doesn’t it?  Because you are in essence saying it’s not absolute truth. Then you can selectively choose what  parts to believe.  When the truth of the Bible speaks against something in our lives or way of thinking, it’s convenient to try to find loopholes or ways around it.  But God clearly says don’t take away from or add to it…Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.  Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:5-6).  When we manipulate God or His Word to fit our thoughts or lifestyles and make Him who we prefer Him to be rather than who He is, we’ve suddenly created our own God. Then we’ve become guilty of idolatry.  There is only ONE true God, and He clearly says there shall be no other gods before Me!

IF you believe the Bible is God’s Word from His very mouth as Jesus indicated when he said, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, then you must believe every word of it is truth.  God doesn’t make mistakes, nor is He a liar.  And I’m fairly certain anyone who claims to believe in God would agree with that!

The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.  Hebrews 4:12-13

Now I can hear your argument, you’ll say it’s not God who is fallible but people.  Exactly, and fallible people misinterpret His truth every day.  But He is infallible, and if the Bible is in fact His breathed and inspired  words, then it is infallible or inerrant as He is!  Some would argue that fallible men wrote the Bible, so it must have error.  At some juncture, we must believe.  I trust that a perfect God inspired and carried HIs word through generations unblemished using imperfect men and women! If He has the power to breathe it into the hearts of men,  He has the power to have them pen it correctly and maintain it for generations without compromising its integrity.

Be careful!  Don’t be deceived and swayed by every teaching that comes your way.  Trust God’s authority.  Stand firm on His word as absolute truth.  Paul warns Timothy of this in 1 Timothy 1:3-7.  I can’t penetrate your heart or give you certainty, Uncertain!  So, I pray with deep love that God reveals Himself and Truth to you powerfully. He’s the only One who can!

Associated verses:  John 14:6; Exodus 3:14, 20:3; 1 Corinthians 1:20-31; Rev 22:18-19; Matt 4:4;  2 Timothy 3:16

Move Holy Spirit in the hearts of every Uncertain who reads these words. You know them all by name.  Honor their sincere questions by answering gently yet firmly.  I pray that through asking they will come to know You in a clearer more intimate way!  Lift the scales from their eyes like you did for Paul on the road to Damascus.  Open their ears to hear You. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17  In the powerful Name of Jesus, Amen

Whoa!!!! Preach it!!!! I wanted to jump off my seat and proclaim it with you!! Psalm 119 speaks of Gods word being TRUTH, and it all boils down to accepting it ALL as absolute truth or rejecting it all. Awesome words, friend!
