We stress over so many things we have absolutely no control over, OR things that will probably never occur anyway.
Deep down, anxiety is often rooted in fear…fear of loss, failure, rejection, even death. So when my anxieties or insecurities set in, I choose to filter my thoughts and circumstances through these questions:
“Will it matter in a year?” … most often, no it won’t!
“Will it change God’s love for me?” …again, no!
People make promises every single day. Some they keep, some they don’t. But be assured that God doesn’t make a promise that He will not or cannot keep. He sees the big picture, and He orchestrates accordingly. Time management has never been a problem for our omnipresent, everywhere-at-once, God. He hears our prayers and praises, and cares for all of our individual needs simultaneously.
To me, one of the most profound promises in the Bible is that NOTHING can separate us from His love. Yeah you heard correctly, NOTHING.
Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
He promises… “No, these won’t separate you from My love.”
Will death, life, angels, principalities, things present, things to come, powers, height, depth, or any other created thing?
Again, He promises… “No, not even these.”
We are so valuable to God He allowed His Son Jesus to die, to free us from the debt of our sin, so NOTHING could separate us from our Father’s love.
No sin, no circumstance…not even death.
Even when our life on earth is over, He’ll still be loving us.
Then the promise that comes packaged within the promise,
“But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.” (NASB)
Get that? We don’t just conquer, we OVERWHELMINGLY conquer.
Now does this mean we can willfully sin and think nothing of it? NO, it just means when we do sin (and we all do), there’s a means of forgiveness through Jesus. Through Him, we are more than conquerors AND we can’t be separated from God’s love.
When circumstances crowd in and cause anxieties to rise up, make a choice to rest in this promise. As elementary as it may seem, for some reason, we so easily forget… WE are loved by Almighty God!
