I remember, we could see Billy and Ruth Graham’s home across the valley and through the trees on the neighboring mountain. We had hiked to the top of Lookout Mountain in Montreat, NC. As a young girl, I was fascinated by the view from there and the vastness of God’s creation. As we soaked it all in, my Aunt Michele read Psalm 8 with dramatic conviction, and I took in every word.
Recently, we went to Northern California to see family and friends. During our stay, my children visited their grandparents (my in-laws), and I was able to get away with friends for some much-needed R & R.
While at my friend’s cabin near Mt Shasta, CA we took some day trips, and my eyes beheld some of the most breathtaking scenes I had ever seen. I stood in awe of God as He revealed His glory through His creation.
I had visited some of the same spots in the past, but I’d never seen them like this! It seemed everything was displayed with such vibrant, vivid colors. The sunsets were gorgeous. Burney Falls was so perfect the water was turquoise. When I say it was stunning, I mean it.
God even showed off bigger when He hung a double rainbow right in front of the cabin window! Amazing! I couldn’t help but worship Him the entire time.
Numerous times during my trip, I thought about that day at Lookout Mountain. As I sat by Lake Manzanita and read Psalm 8, I recalled the sound of my aunt’s voice as she read…
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.
You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
LORD, our Lord, how MAJESTIC is your name in all the earth!
