I have to be honest. I don’t understand it. All this fighting. I have so many friends who are dear to my heart who are a different color or nationality. I love people, and I’m so sorry for the racial tension in this country.
I just did a little research. We have about 25,000 genes that make up the blueprint of the human body. Only 2 of these genes determine color. This means we are divided by .008 percent. WAY less than one percent of our genetic code determines the differences in our color. REALLY? We are all basically the same, yet we allow 2 little genes out of thousands to cause such hatred and division that it costs people their lives.
We have a real dilemma here. These outbursts are not the real problem, they are symptoms of a deeper issue.
I ask God lots of questions. This morning was no different. As I cried out to Him for answers and solutions, I felt His heart for America and I began weeping. He loves this country and the people here. He wants the very best for us, but largely we have turned our backs on Him.
Though we want to make this all about color, the real problem is a heart issue. We don’t know how to love. Why? Because we don’t know Love. There’s so much hurt. Bitterness, rejection, anger and fear are running rampant. Many have believed lies. People are hopeless and responding from a place of brokenness. This doesn’t condone irrational behavior, but it does explain it.
We all come from different backgrounds. I don’t know what it’s like to have never known my earthy father. Maybe you do. You may not understand the pain of walking through infertility. I do. We all have different colored glasses, don’t we? We see through the lens of our own experience, which makes it difficult to understand others.
We ALL have a story. On this we can agree. We all have a choice to make too. All our choices have consequences. At the end of our days, we’ll look back and our lives will be made up of the sum of these choices. Will we allow the things done to us define our actions? Will we choose the higher road or will we choose to lower ourselves to our circumstances?
Quite honestly, my love for you has nothing to do with whether I understand you. It’s all about my choosing to love you.
Love in it’s purest and most basic form is love that has chosen to do so.
Did you know love doesn’t have a color? Love doesn’t see in color. Love doesn’t even see in black and white. The color of love is having the ability to see people with a clean slate. It’s seeing past who they currently are to who they can be. Who they were created to be. It’s seeing others the way Jesus sees them. The way He sees us. That’s a problem too. Too many of us don’t understand how He sees us.
The fact is, none of us deserve love. We are all guilty. But Jesus came to love. He came to teach us about real love. He came to reconcile and restore what was lost. WE are all lost without Him. WE’ve all sinned, but He made a way for us to be reconciled to our Heavenly Father. (Who, by the way, is better than any earthly daddy ever had time to be.)
Jesus. He’s really the answer. HE IS LOVE. He demonstrated it perfectly on the cross. He’s in the business of healing and restoring.
We need reconciliation on every level in this country: races, sons to their fathers and fathers to their sons, mothers and daughters, marriages, male and female, generations, denominations. What we have is a mess, and we desperately need God to restore what’s been broken and lost. He’s the only One who can.
We have to realize we’re in the battle of our lives.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12
WE can fight AND WIN!!! But we have to pray!!
And choose above all, to LOVE.
